    Alcohol in P3

Hey you guys! Before we get into the meat of this interview and how to make alcohol work in Phase 3, I want to mention just 1 thing. The vast majority of women I've been interviewing so far who have gone through the Phase 3 program mention 2 main factors to their stabilization and maintenance success this time vs. prior times not working. The first is, the P3 program! But a QUICK close 2nd is....not having alcohol.

Several have mentioned this now so I felt it important to pass this on to you - and the main reason they cite is really that they end up letting loose too much once they have alcohol. I think we tend to minimize that factor. The idea that our inhibitions will be lowered once we drink. We think, nah that's just all in people's heads. I'll just have 1 glass and then stick to other P3 eating, easy-peasy. But the reality is these ladies all keep saying they'd end up eating other non-P3 things after all at their meal out once they had a drink. And then maybe a little more of the drink than they meant to have.

Do what you want with this info, I'm just passing along what they're telling me! Remember - it's 3 weeks. 3 weeks - let that sink in. 3 weeks to not having to do another round of hCG again in a month, or to not having to re-lose 15 lbs you gain back. Is that worth it?

    Love you guys!

    DRINK ON P3

    1. If you are counting calories, then you could allow for the calories of the drinks wanting to be consumed as part of that day’s intake.

    2. If counting macronutrients, you may allow for the calories drunk to come from your carb grams for that day.

    3. Keep your fat intake low.

    4. You could also eat first, then have a couple of drinks 2-3 hours after that meal.

    5. Good choices include white wine, red wine, low carb beer, Vodka, Tequila, Gin, White Rum. Keep mixers to soda water, fresh lime juice and at a stretch diet soda.

    6. SERVING SIZE: In the United States, one "standard" drink contains 14 grams of pure alcohol, which is found in:

    • 5 oz of wine, which is typically about 12% alcohol
    • 1.5 oz of distilled spirits, which is about 40% alcohol.

How Much a 5 OZ Glass of Wine Is

    5oz wine

No sugar, no starches, no wine?

I get asked so often in my initial conversation with a new HCG’er - ‘When can I have a glass of wine again?’. They are usually ecstatic to hear that Phase 3 allows for alcohol in moderation. But what is moderation and how can I enjoy a little alcohol and still continue to maintain my weight?

Below are some insights into alcohol and how it behaves in the body and what we should account for during the weeks of Stabilisation (Phase 3) of the HCG protocol, without it being detrimental to our efforts during Phase 2.

Alcohol - the non essential nutrient

Alcohol is not essential to our body and provides 7 cals per gram ingested - up there with fats which provide 9cal/g(carbs and proteins are 4cals/g). However, it has been shown that alcohol has a negative caloric load due to the way your body goes into hyperdrive to use it. Like most nutrients, it is absorbed through your gut which means the absence of food will increase and speed up this process. It is then metabolised by our liver. Our body will switch to burning off the alcohol for energy as soon as it is detected in place of other macronutrients. So it is not the calories from alcohol that matter, it’s the effect it has on your metabolism that counts.

    Dr Simeon’s advice

In his manuscript ‘Pounds and Inches’ we know that Dr. Simeon’s allows a glass of wine to be enjoyed occasionally during stabilisation with a meal. Let’s take this into context with where he was living and practicing - Italy. The Italians in Italy, use wine with a meal as an compliment to add to the flavour and enhancement of the meal. So it is common for a half a glass to be enjoyed occasionally with Dinner. I believe this is where Dr Simeon’s starts and ends his inclusion of alcohol in phase 3. Low consumption of wine with a meal, preferably red, is okay.

    Alcohol and Stabilisation

It is advisable to allow the body to stabilise for at least one week or so before introducing alcohol and then it should be consumed in moderation throughout the remainder of Phase 3. There are a few reasons for this:

    1. The body will switch to burning alcohol first when detected. Therefore your body will not allow you to burn any other calories except the alcohol. This means that calories from carbohydrates and fats are more likely to be stored.

    2. Alcohol reduces actually fat burning sometimes for up to 48 hours. Fat storage = weight gain.

    3. Being on essentially a low carb and lower calorie diet during Phase 3, means we are more susceptible to the intoxication effects on our brain function and nervous system. A little will go a long way ....

    4. As alcohol relaxes your inhibitions, you may be more likely to indulge in unapproved Phase 3 foods which may lead to a weight gain and a dreaded ‘Steak Day’.

    5. Alcohol dehydrates the body. So, one may be put into a false sense of security in terms of what the scales are telling you. For example, you may still believe you are within your last dose weight range when in fact your body is just dehydrated and fat storage has occurred.

    6. The byproducts of alcohol in the body are toxins. After the lovely detox that occurs during Phase 2, do we really want to overload our body with toxins so quickly? If you wish to have the standard moderation of alcohol recommended which is 1-2 measured drinks, you do have a couple of tricks up your sleeve to ensure stabilisation.

    Stevi-Mojito Drink

Add 1.5fl.oz. of tequila in a tall glass with the juice of one lime. Top with soda water, ice and a few drops of liquid stevia. Decorate with mint leaves ... and a fancy straw is always nice.

      Prayer Devotional for the Day

Dear heavenly Father, I am thankful for the variety of the many foods You created for us to enjoy. I do appreciate all the wonderful things You made for us to eat and enjoy. Lord, give us wisdom in the area of eating. Forgive us for partaking in any form of gluttony. Lord, help us to eat in moderation and deliver us from any lust and addiction to food. Help all of Your people who are struggling with being overweight to overcome in this area. Correct our appetites so that we do not desire those things that are bad for us, and help us not to over-indulge in food and drink. Give us strength to resist the temptation to continue eating more than we need. May You be “Lord of the Fork” in my life. I ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Hi I’m Janet. I just signed up but I am still in my phase II HCG program. I do not want to gain my weight back. I lost 25 pounds so far and need to lose 35 more. I signed up early for the P3 maintenance program to get a jump on things. I am so glad I did. I can start buying what I need in advance (I just ordered my Vitamix with all the extras to go with it). Rayzel, you have really helped me in phase II just by watching your YouTube videos. I am excited to be in your P3 program!!!!! I this will help me get there and keep me motivated. You are a true inspiration to me. When I need direction or motivation, I listen to your videos and I feel so much better and do not want to give up, they give me strength!!! Thank you for all the time and effort you have put into this program.

You all need to find Zevia soda that is only made with Stevia, tastes great. Lemon/Lime Twist is great in my books. They have many flavors also.Got my husband off 7UP couple of years ago on to the gingerale He finds it great also with his Rum drink. I prefer Vodka with the Lemon Lime when I get thru the P3 this time. Will watch out as above comments. Thanks Diane

      1. Rayzel says:

Hey Diane! It’s funny, just this past year I saw that zevia finally came out with a soda that truly was only sweetened with stevia instead of the eyrthritol and stevia combo they have in some flavors – thanks for posting about it! These are great ideas, thanks for sharing!

    4. Thank you for this explanation, it has NEVER been explained like that in all the readings that I have done. It stopped me in my tracks last night.I wanted to have a glass or two of wine so bad but no way! not after understand how alcohol could set me back from all my hard work. THANK YOU!!

      1. Rayzel says:

I’m so glad this made sense! It’s so great to learn the principles behind things huh? It really helps me to make better decisions if I know WHY. No prob!

    5. This is great! Alcohol is also my major cheat in P2. This gives me a better perspective of the damage I’m doing 🙁

    6. [email protected] Hi my name Becky l am P3tolife week 2 . The program is great I’m just having trouble raising my calories I don’t know what to do please help

      1. Rayzel says:

Hi there! Okay – are you have trouble raising calories as in when you raise them you gain too much? Or you don’t know what to eat to raise the calories that you want to? Could you do me a favor? Email me at [email protected] and we can deep dive much more easily to help you okay?

    7. I am using this platform for a confession and support. I had a huge ah-ha moment this morning! I am hoping someone else has had this experience. I am 3 months post HCG. I have done an excellent job of maintaining my weight loss of 23 lbs, it has been pretty easy actually. Recently, I have experienced set back. With holidays, social engagements, and work stress I have started to drink a little more, not a ton but 1-2 drinks 4-5 days a week. As my alcohol intake increases, it becomes harder for me to maintain my weight. I think it is more inflammation than calories, but probably some of both. I realized this morning that it is the sugar addiction that the problem. I am still mostly sugar free (I do eat barbeque sauce for instance). There is a bowl of Hershey’s chocolates on my counter and I never even feel tempted to touch them. If I did, I would eat half the bowl! I see the same pattern with alcohol. It is just a bad habit. I am waking up achy again…..and it is the sugar! The Ah-ha moment? I need to treat alcohol as I do candy or wheat: it is “poison”, “off limits”….I need to maintain the ‘food is fuel’ mentality and only put in what is good for me. I am a work in progress. Learning something new every day. Thank you for listening. I hope this helps someone else, too.

        Hey Michelle!

Thanks so much for writing in. I love that you guys share your thoughts and realizations like this because I think a lot of other women will resonate with it and bring various “truths” their forefront as well. And I think you are likely right that the alcohol is more of an issue for a lot of us than we have realized. I haven’t been able to drink at all in several years because of my chronic illness- it just always makes me feel crummy, even one glass, so it makes sense that not drinking has probably made maintaining easier for me as well. Thank you for sharing!

      2. I needed that reality check! Thanks for sharing!

    8. I worked so hard these past 40 days and successfully lost tons of weight, ALCOHOL CAN WAIT! Great info and derail to better comprehend the effects and make an informed choice. TY! God bless! Olga

    9. Great article! I didnt realize that the bod would burn the alcohol for energy first instead of go looking for my saddle bags!!! Good to know.

Like the cocktail idea but that’s more of a cross between a margarita and a mojito! A mojito has white rum. If you have lemon stevia drops that would be perfect as it would give the club soda more of the sprite / 7 up taste. I will try it!

    10. This is great information. I never knew how alcohol metabolized in the body before food. I enjoy my wine, I’ll be more aware now. Thanks!
